April 30, 2015:

For Vietnamese people, the date April 30th is significant because it marks the fall of Saigon, and this year was the 40th anniversary. It’s always surreal when I think about the war because there’s that realization of Wait, my parents were there when this happened…My parents were in the middle of all this, somewhere. They don’t talk about what happened, and I don’t really know what they went through at all. I feel this disconnect because for something that affected my family so much, I know so little about it. I feel like it’s part of the story of where we came from, but I’m missing it.
